A few tips for the newbies starting university this year. I am a third year at Glasgow University so any questions dm me @chelseamewalsh on Instagram or comment below.

1. Moving In and Meeting People
Usually before you move in there will be group chats where you can meet people in your halls and classes. This is how I initially met quite a few of my friends moving in, I found it really good for halls and finding pre-drinks in freshers week. There is sometimes official university pages with news and a place for you to meet people.
Another great way to meet people in first year is by joining societies and clubs, there are so many that there will be something for you.
Finally, a way I personally met a lot of my friends is through working as a PR at a student club, it gives you some extra cash and also means you can meet people from your area and usually your university.
2. Freshers Week Tips
Freshers flue is inevitable because you are meeting so many new people so just make sure you are stocked up on meds before coming to university.
You will get hundreds of flyers in freshers week but not all of them are useless you will be able to find some great deals.
Make the most of freshers week this is the week when you don't have to worry about classes and can have fun and meet people.
Don't forget about society taster sessions, they're usually on during freshers week and it is not all about the drinking and nights out.
3. Living Alone
A big part about university is living alone, you need to make sure you are looking after yourself as well as studying and having fun. Balance is key.
One tip I would give is get recipes and stuff off of your parents so that you have something to remind you of home. I personally got my mums soup and bolognese.
Another tip is shopping at Lidl is so worth it as it is so much cheaper.
Relating to budgeting you may mess up and have to live off a small amount of money for a bit but it's part of learning to be more responsible and there are people to help.
4. Struggling with University
If you are having problems with your mental health or homesickness then don't be afraid to reach out there are university councillors for a reason.
5. The Studying
Try not to get behind because it is quite hard to catch up.
Other than that you have been accepted for your course for a reason and the only real difference is the more independence and if you fail its on you.
You're going to be nervous and excited but anymore questions dm me @chelseamewalsh on instagram or comment below.
